Title: Feature request
Post by: enkiduwd on March 22, 2009, 03:24:13 PM

You can vote for more than one option. If you want to make a feature request - just answer to this post. I will put your demand on the poll as soon as I wake up.

As you can find in The Announcements, future plans for webim looks like that:

Quote
1.5.2   released

    * Bug with redirection after login
    * Ability to disable notification sound
    * Some fixes of translation UI

1.6.0

    * Departments/Skills based queues
    * Pre/post chat surveys
    * Statistics

2.0.0

    * Visitors monitoring
    * Proactive chat invitations

Well... I am just a humble user. On the other hand - "Vox populi - vox dei". We are all a beta testers of webim and should tell THEM ( I mean developers) our opinion. Lets vote!

For me: I dont't like the idea of "pre/post chat surveys" and "active chat invitations". Idea of webim is to change visitor into customer, right? Nagging him, spying on him, trying to take control over his/her web browser and then asking a lot of questions in a "post chat survey" - doesn't seem for me like a good way to maintain a customer - seller relationship.
 Also: I would be happy if I could do turn off an email functionality in a webim. Why? Because on my website a have got already "online contact form" and "send-email-using-default-application" buttons and I don't need another way for my potential customer to send me an email. What I want from webim is a web-based instant messenger that is functional, robust and easy to use. I don't need "multi-functional" or "universal" web application.
I want:

Cheers

Keep in mind, the email function is there because an operator is not. :)

Hello, congratulations, is a nice proyect.

Is possible create options for the Operator change their password?

Well, and other feature is for add "automatic answers" in the drop down list, inside in website options. The user jorge_melo have one answer for that [1], but is better make it inside in website options...

Hello,

Firts congratulations, for this proyect is very good.

- Is important that the user before entering the support he must enter their email and the question for the support. It can help to  to manage a history of the mail and the questions of his users.

- It be important that at the end of the support, the user can give a rating to this.

Thats all..

 ;D sorry for my english...  ;D

I know that this is somewhat redundant as it has been mentioned by myself and I believe another person, it would be nice to have some sort of popup notification for operators when a new visitor arrives and also a popup notification when there is a redirect to another operator.

Thanks,

Rene

Hi everyone,

I've updated plans for 1.6 and here is the list:

1.6.0    expected by April 5
  • new Admin panel
  • Departments/Skills based queues
  • Pre-chat surveys
  • Statistics
  • Option to control "send message" key: Enter vs Ctrl-Enter
  • Multi-choice option: How to notify operator? (sound, scrolling title, focus window, alert)
  • Manage predefined answers
  • Profile page (current operator options)

That's cool! If you don't mind I will keep this poll going? As a developer you never know what the hell the end-user may want.  Fun is a factor ass well. I going to add every single request to this poll - no mater how ridicules it will seems.

Wouldn't be great to be able to start chat with certain operators?
 I have a client with a lot o opperators and a more than one location (auto spare parts dealer) and some clients are used to certain operators so it would be cool if you could have a list o opperators and the possibility to choose the one you want to speak to.

It would be nice to have a single window (Visitors) admin page that incorporates the chat sessions, similar to how Gmail chat or Facebook handle multiple chat sessions simultaneously. Its hard chatting to say 3 or 4 visitors at once, you can easily loose track of each conversations and also trying to view new visitors page...

Also the ability to see if other admins are logged in, in the visitors page. Helps to see if 1 or 2 people are manning the queue.

Other than that its really good!!

cheers

Everything seems to run good. One thing I would really like to see would be a exe file to run off my computer as an operator so I dont have to log into the website to do chatting. Would be nice to have a program to do it.

I've just put it into a poll : I would be happy to donate to this project via PayPal. I really mean it. Unfortunately I can't vote for it ( I already voted  for "free beer for everyone" and other important stuff ;-) ) Anyway - it would be a really nice if you allow us to pay you for your efforts. You did a good job and you deserve some money for it.
Creating "Donate now" PayPal button will be appreciated. Thx

LDAP Authentication for Operators

In medium/large company, this feature will be very much helpful. I am willing to contribute code if I can be provided developer guidelines (if any).

Currently I made it working in version 1.5.2 but all settings are stored in conf. file and there is no UI in the system.

Thanks.

Dhaval

Could you share your modified conf file and how you integrated LDAP?

Hi,

Just as an update to my last post about LDAP Authentication, I downloaded the new version 1.6 and successfully integrated LDAP Auth module in settings panel. Attached is the screenshot of the panel.

To support, LDAP Authentication as primary source of authentication, I have made quite a few changes. If moderator will allow me, I would like to share that with community. I would also like to submit all changes in source code, so new version of WebIM will have LDAP Authentication for Operators as well.

Also as a side note, I have made LDAP Authentication on client side as well. The reason behind this is, we want to publish this application only for our users not for public. It would be debatable to make this as a feature request in application.

Dhaval

Great! Lets put it into 1.6.1!

The only concern is license compatibility if you use licensed code..

What would be great is if there was a feature to automatically engage certain users based on certain parameters similar to Kampyle.  This would enable to increase conversions.  Also just something to keep in mind if you're going to do visitor tracking... Make sure that it's not enabled by default and that it's possible to turn it on and off, because on heavily used sites this will fill up the database very very quickly.

I would also recommend not over-engineering this beautiful application to the point where it's so loaded with features that it's slow, buggy and unusable.  This is what I've found to be the case with many open-source applications.  If you've read the great usability book called "The prisoners are running the asylim" it's called the principle of the dancing bear.  People are impressed by the fact that the bear actually dances, not because it dances well!  Please try to make Open Web IM the best Web Messenger application and not everything under the sun.  I've done up some decent looking templates for it as well so there's no hedious green or table based layouts that don't work all that well.

Would be good to borrow some features from the likes of LivePerson... http://solutions.liveperson.com/sb/sb_chat.asp

Some very useful features are being able to push pages out to the visitor and co-fill forms.  Another Open Source App called Help Center Live does something like that but lacks proper disconnection handling features (which is why I chose Open Web Messenger in the first place).

Hi Dhavel

Sorry to reopen an old topic but I don't suppose you published your LDAP module did you? Wouldn't want to reinvent the wheel :)

Cheers

Hi Dhaval,

Thanks for your insights on LDAP authentication on Mibew messenger. Can you please the process to incorporate the same for Operator as well as Visitors?
